Search query more secure from Google

SEO, by Joakim Ling.

As many of you already know, Google will soon make all users that are logged in use google.com over ssl (https), so we’re talking about everyone who has a Youtube, Gmail, Google+ and all other services that are connected with Google.

Doesn’t seem like a big thing, which is not. But Google makes a very nasty thing that will make all searches on https://www.google.* lose its search query and therefor not traceable.

Https has no problem sending the whole referral string to any address. But what they do, is that they first redirect you to http://google.com with all referral data but clears the query string, very nasty..

So if you search on https://www.google.com, it looks like this:
Google SSL search

When you click on a link, it will redirect you to http://www.google.com with en empty query string like below, you might not notice as it happens very fast but it does happen:
Google search

As you can see, the q= becomes empty and the referral string, in this case on www.ultimatewebtips.com will contain no search string, just that it’s comimg from “google.com”. Which means that we no longer can track keywords, I checked cookies and referrals, doesn’t look like there’s a workaround (yet).

Google Analytics will show (Not provided), other programs nothing. This is an affect of this, and we do not like it.
Google Analytics Not provided

Just a heads up, this will go live worldwide next couple of weeks.

So start finding your valuable keywords now!

Obviously Google released an update to Analytics Premium, where you still can see keywords and all but for a price of $150.000 and who can afford that?
